Automatic logout

I had my system turned off for the last couple of weeks. Yesterday, I started it up again and it came up normally. However the stats page is missing a few things. It doesn’t show the gear icon and there are no Red/Yellow/Green indicators for MLAT etc, also there are no links under Web Interfaces. Anyone know how to get this working again? TIA

I think I know what’s wrong – it doesn’t recognize That I am logged in. Strange.

Or, in other words the stats page is showing what is available to a non-owner viewing the page.

Same issue just happened to a friend of mine who’s not on this message board. His system has been continuously up but today he noticed he had been logged out - no status bars on the stats page. Nothing’s wrong except he was logged out.

So he tried to log back in and got asked for the code in the email that FA sent. He entered that only to get the MFA code request too. Unfortunately he never set up MFA so hasn’t previously linked an authenticator app to his FA account.

He’s dead in the water - can’t logon to his own account!

Interesting, I was able to log back in just using the six character code sent in the e-mail. I haven’t set up MFA either.

Update - quick work by the FA support team. After an email to support they turned off the MFA on his account and he’s back in business able to logon again.

For anyone reading this thread later, this was a login problem I was having, not a problem with the stats page. I should have noticed that the stats page was missing a lot of information that you usually see when you look at your own stats page – like MAC addresses, IP addresses etc.

Apparently FA logs you off if there is no activity within a certain period of time. Interesting thing is I could still post on the forum even though I was (apparently) logged off. Don’t understand that.

Hi Jim,

FA seems to track login status separately for the main site flightaware.com (with your stats) and the discussions.flightaware.com message area.

I noticed months ago when trying to smooth out the login process and switching from e-mailed “2FA” to an authenticator based local 2FA code. I first log in to the main site with a link to my stats page. Then from that page I select “Community… All discussions…” and it uses the current login status to update the login status for the message area. If you directly tried to link to the discussions, you would likely be asked to login again, so it’s quicker to just make it a habit after login.

Obviously FA is using cookies to track login status, and it seems to use different ones for the two areas, which are likely on completely different servers. You were probably just logged out of one of the sections.

I’m not looking for any suggestions on how to improve this, but though it might help answer the question you asked.
