Is there more merger besides the AA/US merger?
I remember back in 1987 we were all called in to hear an announcement that smaller Pacific Western Airlines had taken over larger Canadian Pacific Air Lines to form Canadian Airlines. While not really a merger but a takeover,I mention this because you never know what goes on behind closed doors until the deal is doneā¦an out of the blue announcement of a takeover.
Not to bump just for the sake of bumping this thread but I hope these mergers will help lower the ticket prices and maybe encourage better service. If the merger provides some relief and cash inflow for the airline one would think this would be the case, but I know that the marketplace is what it is so who knows.
I am hopeful that the mergers that are going on are strategic ones that will expand some services and hopefully create better direct flight options with fewer layovers and etc.
We have had more mergers and takeovers. Southwest with AirTran, and quite recently Alaska and Virgin America. I foresee the possibility of additional mergers/takeovers. Spirit, Alligiant, Frontier are some possibilities.
While Spirit and Frontier I can see happening, Allegiant is its own enemy and will not merge with anybody.
