Angelina Jolie gets PPL and largest single engine prop plane

Makes sense to me. Not that anything holds true “across the board,” but guys tend to be more hard-headed and ballsy when it comes to taking daring, sometimes stupid risks. Women tend to crack sooner in a pressure situation, like crosswinds or an ill-handling aircraft. Like I said, these are just generalities that vary among individuals, but I believe cfi’s information is probably accurate.

Men tended to screw up from making bad choices, women were more methodical, but may not have the hand-eye coordination that men do.

I know I’ve mentioned this to you before, but I can’t find the citation. There was an extensive study years ago by the USAF before women were allowed to train and fly interceptor and strike aircraft.

IIRC, the long and short of it was…

Men are more forgiving of a machine’s foibles and idiosyncrasies than a woman, ergo they handle stressors during flight excursions better than women. Men are also more likely to RTFM than a woman.

Women want machines to work they way THEY want them to. However, provided things are progressing as “normal”, they are more content and skilled than men at following a defined plan of action without feeling the need to “improve” things.

Jolies planes, 48JA and 808MX are both registered to Chivan Productions Inc

Since it is the govt. and all it may take a while for the new record to appear.

Regarding the earlier discussion re: “the largest single-engine propeller plane you can get”, I believe the Antonov AN-2 would be more deserving of that title than either the PC-12 or the Caravan…

Just a thought but she wouldn’t even be able to fly a caravan since that is a turboprop? Thought you couldnt fly those if you only had your PPL? Maybe i am wrong.

One would assume that she does have her turbine and HP endorcements, as well as IFR, or is planning on it.

There is no turbine endorsement. A private pilot with complex and high performance endorsements can fly a caravan.

My bad. I thought there was a turbine, which in a way, meant you can fly a jet. I may have been spacing out on that one.

Since when are (land based) Caravans complex?

“FAA Order 8710.3E defines a complex airplane for the airplane single-engine land or airplane multiengine land rating as one that has a retractable landing gear, flaps, and controllable propeller. A complex airplane for the airplane single-engine sea or airplane multiengine sea rating is one having flaps, floats, and a controllable propeller. A controllable propeller may be controlled manually by the pilot or automatically controlled by a full authority digital engine control (FADEC) system.”

I don’t see how the non-float Caravan meets the definition for complex. It is however high performance.

Since I misspoke. A private pilot with a High performance endorsement is legal to fly a caravan.

The insurance companies have a different opinion about flying a turbine single solo.

You probably can’t, but you certainly may

Many apologees.

“A fool and his (her) money are soon flying more airplane than they can handle.”

Ms. Jolie didn’t seem the type for that. She seems to always have an instructor pilot with her.

Maybe she bought a TBM 850… Those are up there in price… Fits that price range anyway.

Just ask John F. Kennedy, Jr.

There are two truisms of celebrity deaths the last decade -

  1. If Princess Diana was wearing a seat belt she would be alive today; and,

  2. If JFK, Jr, had pressed the HDG button on the autopilot when he realized he was in trouble, he’d probably be alive to . . .

Are you kidding me?..this thread being resurrected after being started over a year ago? :unamused:
By now she’s probably flying her own Gulfstream

Funny you should say that, N311CG Gulfstream V-SP c/n 5108 registered on title is AVN AIR (aka GE Credit) reported to be owned by Angelina Jolie. Pictured here in Bejing.
