Air Force One has arrived @ O’Hare . How do I look for it’s info arrival and later departure. Is this public info and aviailble on Flightaware. How would i nagvigate online to find such flights.
No such luck; as it’s a military aircraft and flight, FA does not supply tracking info.
thank you for a quick and polite answer.
I suppose it must have been my avatar pic that made you suspect I’d answer less than politely
more like acurate and percise… i had been reading another discusions and i was viewing Hilters Stelth fighter. Which included a link that took me to National Geographic . They 're making a documentry on Hilters Stelth fighter. They actually had a full size model produced at Tejon Test Range. By the way , where is that picture taken and with what aircraft ?
Picture is of Junkers Ju 52 parked outside the Air Force Museum in Dayton. Hitler had one of these as his personal transport (I guess). I’m not really big into Nazi stuff, I just thought it would be funny to have my picture taken giving thumbs up next to a swastika Although I gotta admit I think that a lot of the aviation technology developed by Germany in both the world wars was interesting, even if not very functional.
Funny? Funny how?
Gotta’ share with you that a lot of folks will find that image and the approval it appears to convey quite objectionable.
Not so much to justify my picture as to let you know a little about me, it’s sort of an inside joke. I grew up and currently live in a predominantly rural, predominantly undereducated area, where discrimination seems to be a way of life for most people (sadly including members of my own family). Those of us in my circle of friends and family who don’t buy into the garbage have developed a sort of mocking cynicism toward discrimination on the whole. I suppose maybe it’s childish- in the way that adolescents poke fun at things that aren’t cool- but if I claimed to be much more than adolescent I probably wouldn’t dedicate so many of my potentially productive hours poking around on aviation websites and daydreaming about being a pilot
All that said, I tend to forget that while the people in my circle are keen to find humor in irony, most of the “outside world” are just chomping at the bit for a chance to get pissed about something that bears a resemblance to something objectionable.
I’ll take your comment as a patronly figure looking out for me and will change my avatar to something with a little less potential for “objection”
Thanks,
Joe
Edit: My wife told me that somebody would complain about my avatar pic before long…go wife!
I guess that Luftwaffe aircraft and pilots will forever be marred by carrying the swastika marking along with it’s connotations…
Ironically, I think it should be just as offensive to have a pic with you giving the “thumbs up” next to the nose art of the Enola Gay or Bockscar, but I digress.
Interestingly, the Swastika was a symbol of luck to Hindus. The word Swastika is from Sanskrit , I think the word was Svastika?
I never took offense to the swastika. Since this is an aviation forum. I looked at it differently. Like kool plane and the aircraft Germany had or was developing. If this had been in any other discussion group then i would be perturbed. Many members of my family fought in the Pacific and in Europe. Guadalcanal and the Battle of the Bulge. This is an aviation forum . I brought up that I had just visited the National Geographic site, where they made a documentry on Germany’s Stelth plane. I believe it will be broadcast in early August. I have to go back to check that out.

That’s how my comment was offered, just a heads-up, not an admonition.

Well now you can tell her she was wrong. No one complained and in an extraordinary display of maturity and restraint, for which she should reward you, you simply decided to change your avatar before any problems arose.
A Win - Win all around!

interesting little read. I knew the Hindu usage, but I wasn’t aware of the Buddhist and Native American, nor the rest.
Now days without a doubt, when you see it, despite what the origins of that particular swastika is, you associate it with the Nazi movement. I do as well. It has become the symbol for that, and only that.
Although they all have their different meanings, pre WW2 it would’ve been right up there with the Yin Yang (spell check that) or the Peace symbol. I know other Air Forces of the world have used versions of these symbols as well.
The Singapore AF used the Yin Yang with several stripes coming off the top and bottom.
I was thinking a country used the peace sign without the outer circle, it seems to me that it was used by a European country and it was inverted, does that ring a bell?
I guess this should be a new thread, “Air Force Insignia” huh?

Nat Geo broadcasted the show back in June. Some discussion can be found here…
Sorry to jump in late guys… but after re-reading my post:
The Germans engineered some remarkable aircraft during WWII and had some exceptional pilots. Hell, we acquired most of their scientists and engineers after the war to benefit our own needs! I don’t think the political mandate of their rulers should detract from their accomplishments.
So…
PlaneJunkieJoe giving the “thumbs-up” to the swastika on the rudder of a Junkers… OK.
PlaneJunkieJoe giving the “thumbs-up” to the swastika on the Nazi Party flag… Bad.
Getting off the whole swastika thing…
The Prez came to Raleigh yesterday and I noticed this plane:http://flightaware.com/live/flight/PCE3853 following (actually ahead of Air Force One) everywhere (from Andrews AFB to Raleigh to Bristol and then back to Andrews). Who exactly is on this plane? Secret Service? Staff? Media?
Also, just curious, why would it have a different aircraft type for every leg when you’d assume it was the same aircraft all day? It has them listed as 737/Q, 732/L, 732/Q, 732/I, and 732/G.

Press plane to cover the visit. There is limited seating aboard AF1 to cover the flight. The person filing may have entered different codes. It maybe a 732 and they entered 737 the first time by error.

Thanks wazzu.
Any idea what the different letters means at the end? (Q, L, Q, I, G)

flightaware.com/about/faq_aircra … suffix.rvt should answer your question.
