Hi all,
Disappointed to find a splash screen telling me to disable my ad blocker, I have been using Flightaware for 4 years and feeding signals to them, however I use adblocker as my preference and will probably remove flight aware over this issue,
Bri.
I’m using pihole and noticed that Flightaware occasionally puts up a splash screen asking me to disable ad blocking. However it doesn’t do anything beyond that. That’s different from some other sites like weather.com that actually prevents you from using their site if you’re using ad blocking.
So am I, and see the same behaviour:
As feeders have Enterprise Accounts, displaying the message is a glitch.
As you said hitting the X to dismiss the pop up lets you proceed as usual.
Yeah, also sort of wonder how they know you’re blocking ads if they aren’t serving up ads to Enterprise accounts?
I am feeding and i do not get the message. My AD blocker is turned off for Flightaware entirely
I’ve started getting this message a few days ago.
The first time, I assumed (without checking) that I was logged out. Since then, I have definitely been logged in and still get the popup.
Ad analytics are also blocked by adblockers.
Those are commonly on even if not serving ads.
Showing that message for people with an ad-free account seems like a bad move.
Started the browser a minute ago and now i do have the message too.
That’s really bad.
The Definition of irony:
Using an Ad Blocker to block a popup telling you to disable the Ad Blocker.
(better than waiting for someone to un-break the site)
Thanks for all your comments, I am happy if it is just a glitch as I would miss checking my local airport etc.
Thanks very much!
Bri.
Likewise! It’s a bit of a slap in the face from a user-experience standpoint for folks who are feeding their system. I use PiHole which covers my whole network and before I break/bend that to use FA’s website for info, I’ll just go somewhere else for my information and just stop feeding. Sounds petty for just having to click once to clear the pop-up, but clicks add up in life and can kill joy.
I pinged them by email a couple days ago and got a response back, “I can assure you we have elevated the issue for our backend team to address. The issue will be resolved as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience with us as we resolve the matter.”
Fingers crossed.
Ten years here and I also felt a slap in the face. We don’t pay to use this site. We contribute to use this site. Anyway, I hadn’t logged in a few weeks and it seems like logging into Fort Knox now. What are people afraid of?
Nothing to be afraid, but simply annoying.
btw: I am getting the popup even with the ADBlocker disabled for the whole site
It’s simply not working and that might be the reason why the popup comes up for everyone.
I have an ad blocker, uBlock Origin, running 100% of the time. It can also block any page elements selected by the user such as popups and side panels. I have never received a “blocker” message from FA.
Wait for it…
For me it took several days until it appeared first time. And i am using the same plugin, but it’s deactivated for Flightaware. But i am getting the message anyhow.
My uBlock Origin is active on every website with no exceptions. It routinely blocks 2 items on FA. It has been this way for years.
Not for long (ubo) if you’re a chrome user.
I am using the same plugin for years. But the FA warning arrived to me also a few days ago for the first time.
uBlock origin will be thrown out of the Google Chrome store. Reason is that Google will ban extensions using the architecture Manifest-2
What is architecture Manifest-2?
