It’s almost 2024 and I’m flying in an American Airlines Airbus 321-211.

You did not pay enough for the ticket that they can order newer aircraft

22.9 years? That’s nothing! Their last MD-80 was retired in 2019!

When I worked for low-cost carrier Vanguard in the early 2000s, we had one 737-200 built in 1969. Getting MD-80s (most of which were built in the 1980s) in 2001 was considered a major upgrade!

Lufthansa are still operating six of their Airbus A340 which are meanwhile all > 20 years.
They are currently flying the routes of the former A380 equipment which was much younger.

As long as they are maintained well, i don’t have a problem with it.

Here’s an article about older aircraft.

Passenger of civil aircraft “Boy my aircraft was 23 years old. What a mess”
Pilot of a B52 military bomber “Hold my beer”

I flew a Motor-Sich YAK-40 UR-88310 from Kiev to Odessa in 2019 that was 39 years old at the time.

Almost wished I didn’t lookup the tail number while I was on the tarmac waiting to board.

The flight back was an AN-24 UR-BXC that was 47 years old.
