Planned Route now displayed on maps for airborne flights

Hello from FlightAware!

We’re pleased to announce another new feature on flight tracking pages – FlightAware.com maps now display the planned route (from the flight plan) as a dashed line on the map. Not only does the dashed line appear in front of the aircraft, but if you zoom into the flown route, you can see normal deviations from the planned route along the flight.

We update the planned route throughout the flight, so if the flight plan changes, the map will reflect the new routing.

To adjust your display settings on a map, click the “+” icon in the upper right corner. You can turn on or off the planned route display as well as toggle the waypoint markers. The waypoint markers along represent the different points in the route, usually an aviation navigational aid or the intersection of two different aids.

Thanks for using FlightAware!
