Narrative: The Porter Airlines Inc. de Havilland DHC-8-402 aircraft (operating as flight POE264) was on a scheduled IFR flight from Ottawa (M-CIA) (CYOW) to Toronto (City Center) Airport (CYTZ). The flight crew reported that a green laser light was directed at their aircraft for about five (5) seconds when it was 10 miles east of Toronto (City Centre) Airport while on approach for runway 26. The aircraft would have been several miles south of Bluffers Park at the time of occurence. The flight crew reported the source to be 1-2 miles north of Bluffers Park. Ops. impact – unknown.
They wont thank its fun too long when government agents or military police come knocking on their door.There was a fool who did same thing with a light pointed it at an aircraft not knowing it was an AC-130 Gunship,so with their Gps tracking equipment they pinpointed his location, they circled overhead until law enforcemment pulled up in his driveway,needless to say i dont think he will do that again.
I got hit with one a few months back coming out of TEB late at night. Called NY Approach on the radio as it was happening, and called them on the phone when I landed, got the exact time of my radio call, then checked FA for the lat/long at the approx time of my call.
Then I overlaid my complete lat/long track on Google Earth, and scanned the surrounding area for locations that looked like the laser came from. I was able to narrow the location down to a specific parking lot. I wrote up a report and sent it to the NJ State Police, the municipality that the lot was in, and also to the FAA and NTSB. Two days later I got a call from the FBI that a local officer had caught my laser guy doing it again. He spent a couple of days in jail, where he admitted lasing me, and is now awaiting a federal terrorism trial, which I get to testify at.
Those green lasers are extremely intense, and I was definitely blinded in one eye for a few moments. I was extremely impressed by the seriousness the FBI took with this case. I was convinced I would never hear from anyone after the report was filed.
