Why does the forum not support other languages such as Arabic? I suggest that be done
Three years later and I still detest Discourse compared to a more traditional forum. It shows me what it thinks I want to see which is very different to what I actually want to see.
Probably because if we would drift into plenty of individual languages nobody would be able to understand the entirety of the discussions… As we are an international forum we ought to agree on a common language. In our case this is English. In private messages you’re free to talk in any language you desire.
I can use it now, but I agree, the old forum was much much better.
Got an email about a survey today. Not one mention of the forum software.
I used one of the free text boxes to suggest removing ‘others’ from the stats page and to dump this format in favour of a real forum again.
Easier loading of images will be a nice improvement.
Recently, I don’t know if this is an Apple iOS update or a Discourse update, I am having issues with vertical scrolling of long Discourse threads using iPad.
It is impossible to get to the most recent post of a long thread.
Often the browser will struggle to render and is either crashing or retrying.
The browser can sometimes get in a loop refreshing a position on a thread.
Viewing the start of a thread is ok: it is only when I scroll towards the end that the problem occurs.
It may be the combination of update versions from Apple & Discourse, but I would point out that other sites using Discourse (such as The Things Network ) have no issue with long threads. I suspect FlightAware Discussions are not running the latest supported version of Discourse or are running a version incompatible with iOS.
The issue is observed on both Safari & Chrome and I am seeing it on iOS 12.5.5 using iPad mini 2 (latest available iOS for that hardware). All browsers on iOS use WebKit and seem to have same problem.
FWIW I don’t have any problems with scrolling long threads on my iPad. I just checked with the 4000+ Airspy thread. I am using iOS 15.2 on an air2.
Thanks @LawrenceHill I did a bit more digging and some folks seem to be having similar issues:
I’m stuck with iOS12.5.5 due to age of hardware. It’s possible enabling one or more of the Safari Advanced “Experimental Features” may alter the behavior. They are currently all disabled.
I remembered, my wife has an old iPad mini that is stuck on iOS9.3.5 so I tried that. It won’t even open the discussion site at all. It keeps reporting an error occurred and it is reloading the site. So definitely looks to be something to do with old versions of iOS.
Not a bad little board. Answers many of the questions I have come up with. Pull Pitch!
Noted. Will check out the new platform and features. Thanks. ㅤㅤㅤ
