Used to be on of my main reasons for using FA when I wasn’t in the air. No more. Congrats on KILLING the forums. Bravo… way to go.

So FA… I’d be curious if you could share metrics on the activity in the discussion groups since the ‘new and improve’ system went up? How active are things? New posts? Visits?

Well that just makes it alright then… right?

What’s your verdict? I keep coming back to see if it’s worth spending any time in…

Sticking to the motto: “If you haven’t got anything nice to say, don’t say it”, I’ll remain silent.

I do respect ‘why’ the change was made, but … (see above).

@baiqi I agree, it is slightly better visually, the update was much needed.

Why? Honestly. Does this improve anything? More and more complaints.

new forums can be described in one word for me

For us the newbies, excellent stuff. For those who have been in the system much longer, I think it’s not fair to criticise the development team the way you are doing. Most of us are getting to this page at no cost, except data, most of which we borrow elsewhere (work, hack, etc). Despite, I have only one suggestions from the development team:

  1. Font
The text is a little small. Maybe an accompanying message warning or requesting people to adjust their screen font (if that wont give more labour to the programmers ). Otherwise some of us are going to Opti… after reading this.

Never-the-less, you are diong a stirling job. Serving a community as this one you are to be prepared to receive the jibes that come along. But in the end you are serving the mass.

The end justifies the means

If you are using a flightfeeder, that may be true, but many of us fund our own equipment.

speak for yourself. I pay for mine.

You may have got to this page at no cost but i have bought and paid for out of my own pocket the 6 stations running under my account. That includes the Pis, the receivers, the filters and amplifiers and the coax and antenna mounts.

I am paying for all the data some of which is cellular and quite expensive.

I recently sent a complete station at my cost including air freight to Cocos Keeling Island in the middle of the Indian Ocean.

There are many others feeding Flightaware who contribute equipment, data and time to enhance this great resource. We are not all freeloaders.

Initially I hated this format. But after the few adjustments that were made, and after I got used to the new formatting, I was convinced to spend more time around here.
Just today I noticed that I was given the “regular” badge and I read more about it.
I think that this trust level system it is the best feature since… invention of forums! Now I really like it!

For those not familiar

The Peter Principle is an observation that the tendency in most organizational hierarchies, such as that of a corporation, is for every employee to rise in the hierarchy through promotion until they reach the levels of their respective incompetence.

Is there a chance to get a selection of more themes?
The dark theme is light text on grey which is not what i’m looking for.

Maybe black text on not quite white background?
Something grey blue like would fit flightaware very well, like here for example:
Screenshot%20from%202019-01-27%2022-34-53

Much easier on the eyes on typical monitor brightness levels.
Apart from that the forum seems quite usable.
I once managed to change my mini picture that appears next to the user but it appears i can now no longer change it. Any chance to give users the chance to change it even if it is limited to maybe one change per year or even limited to 2 changes for a user account.

Apart from that it seems that just using Ctrl + to magnify the web page a bit does wonders so the column with text is not as narrow and the text a little bigger (i know i could also change the text size in the settings)
