Track log only has estimated reports

Hi, would anyone know why there are only estimated positions for this flight in the track log? Other services seem to have data and it’s clearly not outside coverage areas - what could be going on?

I’m even more confused now as there are two pages and two track logs for this flight, one with the data and one without.

I set up an alert for the flight yesterday and ended up getting alerts connected to the one without any meaningful data.

Hi,

This is just an educated guess, but it looks like the aircraft flew with a transponder mode-S Flight-ID = EXS15RF which is normally used for a different route. That probably confused FA, which led to the double track. The aircraft itself (G-JZDG, mode-s code=4080E2) in the transponder was correct, which led to the good ads-b track. I suspect after FA noticed the aircraft landing at a different nearby airport, only 39 miles, away that it then correlated the flight to the correct one, leading to the estimated positions and double tracks.

More details:

aircraft registration = G-JZDG
mode-s code = 4080E2

On the day of your double track, it flew with this mode-s Flight ID (callsign) = EXS15RF

Notice that all the previous FA history for that Flight ID shows as below:
All flights from EGNT/NCL to LTFE/BJV

Checking previous flights from your two airports, it looks like they normally use a different Flight ID = EXS22UP

Notice that all the previous FA history for that Flight ID shows as below:
All flights from EGNT/NCL to LGKO/KGS

That’s my best guess. Either the aircraft flew with the wrong Flight ID, or the schedule for what Flight ID it was supposed to use had recently changed. FA noticed the strange info and did its best to match it with the schedule. When the aircraft landed at the “wrong airport”, it then went back and figured out what probably happened with the wrong Flight ID.

Regards,
Dan

When the clocks fall back in Europe (i.e. this weekend) airlines institute new schedules and along with that comes a number of new Flight ID/callsigns. It takes a bit of time for whatever data sources FA is pulling from to populate the correct flight numbers and destinations in query results.

Thanks for the replies, a very interesting read! That makes sense and I hadn’t considered the implications of the clocks changing.
