Strange issue after upgrade to 3.8.1

Pretty sure there was a version change some time ago which prompted upon installation to overwrite /etc/default/dump1090-fa.

If that prompt for some reason was on one machine, not the other, or it was answered differently, that would explain it.
Who knows what happened, i doubt you will be able to pinpoint the issue.

I don’t remember getting any prompts when I upgraded on either of them. I know it was only last week but then I don’t even remember what I had for breakfast yesterday.

I suspect you are right but I was hoping to know what to look out for next time is all.

I might do the upgrade on the SD card I restored the backup to and see what happens.

OK. You are correct about the prompt @wiedehopf.

I just ran sudo apt update, sudo apt upgrade on the restore of the second one. I answered the initial question with a lower case y.

I got the question about overwriting \etc\default\dump1090-fa but I don’t remember seeing it before.

What I do remember is answering the initial question about continuing with a upper-case Y the first time I did it on this one.

Is that why I didn’t get the question last time? Does it automatically answer all subsequent questions with a y?

I think I answered the initial question with a lower-case y on the other one but I don’t remember getting the question about overwriting \etc\default\dump1090-fa on that one.

There’s one way to find out of course. Restore the backup of that one to a spare SD card and do it again on there as well.

I restore the backup from the first receiver to a spare SD and performed the same commands, answering with lower case y to the initial question.

It ran through, installed PiAware 3.8.1 without asking the question and is working fine as before.

So the only difference between the two that I can see is that the first one had allow-auto-updates and allow-manual-updates set yo yes and the second one didn’t.

I wonder if the combination of that and me answering the initial question with an upper-case Y is what made the difference?

Sorry to bang on about this but I hate mysteries! There has to be an explanation.

As a final test, I restored the backup of the second Pi to a spare SD card and set allow-auto-updates and allow-manual-updates to yes so that it was the same as the first Pi.

I did sudo apt update, sudo apt upgrade and answered the initial question with a lower case y. Once again, it asked me whether I wanted to overwrite \etc\default\dump1090-fa.

So it seems like it is nothing to do with whether remote updates are allowed but I don’t understand what it is that is causing the difference between these two receivers.

Different version you are upgrading from?

The offer to change the config file will only occur when the upgrade spans two versions that include the version that changed the config.

Also in case you’re using the default config, it won’t ask and just use the new file.

They were both running 3.7.2 before, which was installed on the same day using the same commands. I had edited the coordinates and gain in the config but not aware of any other changes being made.

I’ll just have to remember not to answer the initial question with an upper-case Y next time so that I get the question about overwriting the config.

It was just bugging me but I’m moving on to other things now…
