Hi all
I don’t seem to be seeing my “Highest rank in last 30 days” statistic any more. Nothing has changed here as far as I am aware and it’s been fine for the last however-many years. Thoughts ? Something I’ve done to lose it ?
Hi all

I don’t think this has to do anything with you, I haven’t got it anymore as well so it looks like something going wrong with the webserver or it’s code that enables this to display.
Hmmmm. OK. It’s only happened in the last couple of days. I seem to remember something like it happening before a long time ago, but I can’t remember what, if anything, I did to correct it. I have a dim recollection of it being something to do with being logged in, but I am loathe to log out and then try to log back in, as again, I have a dim recollection of that causing me a lot of problems with the old “Ooooh - that’s the wrong password” thing …
Other stats seem to be updating ok, if a little behind compared to normal, so maybe I’ll just leave it and see what happens
You would only see your position while being logged in. As said, it disappeared from my own view as well (while being logged in) since a day or 2. I don’t think you can correct this on your end.
Hopefully they are repairing the calculation of that parameter so it is actually accurate. It has never been close to being accurate on my site display.
Hi there,
Sorry you’re experiencing issues.
Could you send me a screenshot of what you’re seeing?
Everything I’m looking at “seems” ok but I may be looking at the wrong thing.
Hi Nick
Nothing to see really - literally ! There is usually an item that says something like “highest rank in last 30 days” (that might not be the exact words but close enough) in one of the panels at the top of my stats page. That entire line has gone. Not only no actual figure for that stat, but even the text line has gone. All of the other ‘grouped’ stats about me, the site, and its performance are present as normal in those panels at the top. All of the rest of my stats page - the graphs, performance history, current planes being monitored etc, look normal. That said, I have recently had my current rank in the “30-day site ranking” panel, disappear for a couple of days at a time, but right now, it is there, highlighted in yellow, as normal. As that is associasted with the 30 day ranking as well, I did wonder if it had any bearing on the original ‘problem’ that I posted here ??
Hi Nick,
Normally you would see the user ranking after being logged in at this of the statistics webpage:
That is gone now.
It used to be like this:
Additionally for the others, see this post on how the ranking is calculated since April 7 2025 ![]()
We are making an update to our ADS-B Statistics Leaderboards and how we calculate the rankings for different “Top” categories. Currently, your rank is determined by the number of unique aircraft your receiver tracked and contributed to FlightAware. This includes ADS-B, MLAT, UAT, and “Other” aircraft.
We will be officially removing “Other” aircraft as a factor in the rankings. Other aircraft statistics will continue to be displayed, however it will not be a contributing factor to your overall ranking.
A commonly asked question is what we consider “Other” aircraft.
Other aircraft refers to aircraft that you received Mode-S messages from, but were not tracked via ADS-B or multilateration (MLAT). In other words, the received message did not include position information or were not used in a MLAT calculation to derive its location. These aircraft messages were relevant when ADS-B and MLAT were less widely adopted, so we decided to include all aircraft types towards ADS-B Statistics Rankings at the time.
With the widespread adoption of ADS-B and MLAT today, “Other” aircraft have become less useful for aircraft tracking. Messages that contribute to “Other” aircraft often include unreliable, low-quality data. We have also observed that certain ADS-B receiver settings can cause receivers to emit more data that we consider “Other” aircraft which skews the leaderboard results.
For these reasons, we have chosen not to consider them in your overall ranking going forward.

So, just to be clear. What you are saying is that - setting aside the changes to the way the rankings are calculated per the ‘update’ that you published and that I saw last year - in the last couple of days you have now removed the “Highest User Ranking in the Last 30 days xxxx” field from the statistics page ? If that is correct, may I ask why ? I always found that a useful statistic that reflected the overall rolling performance of my station. The changes by the hour that appear in the “30 day ranking” pane are of much less relevance to me as I am not watching that all the time. Do others agree, or is it just me ?
I noticed this too but you can still get your approximate ranking in the global stats if you look at the “Users” tab and scroll down.
I changed nothing
I just highlighted what line went missing. I’m not part of the FA staff.
The line highest position in the last 30 days should be coming back in my view.
Others were remarking the numbers are off and in that regard I quoted the changes that were implemented last year.
In simple terms, the category “Other” doesn’t count for the statistics anymore but is still displayed on your own statistics.
Right you are! I’m wondering who this “undocumented” user that is at the #1 Ranking position in Asheville, NC USA is? I bet Misher Hollifield, who is gathering data from the same location, is wondering what is their magic formula. The value of the “other” aircraft, that aren’t being used in the ranking calculation, is likely an indicator that the “undocumented” receiver is probably somewhat “promiscuous”!
To counter that behavior is one of the main reasons to discard that category and the changes that were implemented last year.
I see it, but I don’t think my ranking has ever been that high. I’ve been tracking it on my own for about a year, and the highest it’s been on my spreadsheet is 2330.
Edit: The 2330 is site ranking. I have two sites. The other one has much fewer observations than this one. But maybe enough to boost my user ranking? I don’t know. I don’t follow user ranking.
The user ranking is the combined result of all of your sites indeed.
I’m number 3 on the user ranking due to the combined result of all of my sites. Individual they don’t reach that high.
Edit: my user ranking is back again.
@arfadaily it it visible for you as well again?
Yep ! Well now, there’s a thing … Nobody has done anything, but suddenly, it’s back ![]()
Thanks everyone for the interesting discussion. Be interesting to see if it stays now it’s back
We fixed a database problem overnight which affected ~1% of sites but indirectly meant that the ranking data didn’t get updated for any site. Thanks for the heads-up!
Ah, no probs. Thanks for the update !
