Wee bit confused as to Squawks. The explanation is a four digit code used by aircraft crew to transmit information to ATC yet if I browse the squawks section of the FA web site it is more like an RSS feed of interesting aviation news.
Because that’s the name they’ve chosen to use here that’s associated with aviation. Nothing more.
Ah, OK. Thanks for explanation.
“Squawk” is also aviation slang or jargon for a discrepancy or maintenance write-up.
To say that you are going to “squawk (something)” might mean that you are going to record a defect or discrepancy into the aircraft maintenance logbook, for investigation or repair by a mechanic.
To review the “squawk list” might mean that you have reviewed the recent history in the aircraft maintenance logbook, and have made yourself aware of the latest defects or discrepancies with that particular aircraft that have been documented by other airmen.
Thanks for explanation. Terminology is used, I guess, in many organisations that outsiders may wonder about. So looks like FA’s squawks are a bit like an aviation RSS feed, aviation incidents of interest.
