Interesti project, what is the purpose of trying the thin client? Guessing whilst testing system antenna position temporary but see a few aircraft still shown.

It’s in response to this topic: FYI: Alternatives to Raspberry Pi for this hobby as Pis are in very short supply worldwide.

Ah yes, they are indeed in short supply.

Back to WW2 tactics, lookouts with binoculars noting details with pencil in a notebook then calling a central contact who will then disseminate info to nearby parties :grinning: :sunglasses:

Geoff

You are right. The Radio was Generic DVB-T and the antena was the mag-mout whip supplied with the DVB-T, It was placed indoors on a cookie-can lid, just a meter away from the dongle (the length of coax of antenna is only one meter)

[SOLVED] faup1090 is now working on HP Thin-Client 520 As well as on Desktop PC.

Downloaded a fresh copy of SLAX image, prepared microSD card with this image, and booted Slax on Desktop PC. Installed piaware & dump1090-fa as user root, and faup1090 failed again.

Re-imaged again, but this time, did NOT install piaware & dump1090-fa as user root.
Instead created user abcd, switched to user abcd, and then installed piaware & dump1090-fa
The faup1090 is working OK now

root@slax:~# adduser abcd

root@slax:~# apt update
root@slax:~# apt install sudo

root@slax:~# usermod -a -G sudo abcd
root@slax:~# groups abcd
abcd : abcd sudo

switched to user abcd,

root@slax:~# su abcd
abcd@slax:/root$ cd
abcd@slax:~$

AS user abcd nstalled Piaware & dump1090-fa and all working OK. Next booted on HP Thin-Client, also working OK.

Install Slax on USB Flash Memory OR microSD card: https://www.slax.org/starting.php

NOTE:

Current version of SLAX is based on Debian 11.3 Bullseye. It is an excellent lightweight distro, fast boot, which can be run from a USB flash memory or microSD card+USB card reader. By default it runs with persistance, but has option to change to run without persistance or totally from RAM to be selected at boot by pressing Esc button.

It also has a Network Manager icon on Desktop, and by running it, the network (wire/wifi/Bluetooth) can be configured easily, like settings in standard Debian Desktop.
