“Send command to device” feature

Folks,

On my other R-Pi devices I regularly run software updates using apt-get update followed by upgradenas they include security updates etc.

I’ve been running PiAware for a good few months and never done an update.

My Stats page shows PiAware (Debian Package Add-on) 3.5.0 - iso looks like I need an update at some point but I’ve seen reference to “Send command to device” feature. I cannot find this anywhere on my setup. Was this only available in the earlier version?

You have to ssh to your Pi and give these two commands to enable “Send command to device” feature:

sudo piaware-config allow-auto-updates yes
sudo piaware-config allow-manual-updates yes

while you are in ssh console, you can upgrade from 3.5.0 to 3.5.1 by following command

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Thank you.

What are the pros or cons of either set up?

Having facility of remotely “Send command to device” is very convenient.
Some people who are keen/paranoid about privacy and security say no to it, but I never noticed any negative thing about it.

Yes, didn’t think about the ‘remote’ option. That could be handy.

Thank you for reply.

Your IP address is part or your local Home Network, the public one is assigned by your service provider.

Why did you want to change it?
