I see flight number on the map which is great, but my hope is it that they see interest or the need to add a column in the data with the flight and registration info next to each other. That would be great.
If I understand you correctly, I’d be betting it would take too much real estate in the tag to display both the tail number and flight number in the map.
When I track commercial flights, I follow them using the flight number and give people interested in flights I am on the flight number. They don’t understand concept of tail number except when I fly GA. And even then, sometimes I just simplify it to say my “flight number” as that’s all they want to know.
I bring this up as sometimes “less is better” when it comes to graphical display. If one wants more, the registration liink should be more then adequate.
Too confusing… the only good thing about this ( to me ) is that one could track which cities the Southwest ‘state’ planes would be at, for taking pictures.
We have dozens of sources for all our data, there is no single one. At this point, the largest provider of registration<-> flight data is the airlines.
I see. And what about answers to posts # 2,3,4,5,6 ad 7 ?
Doing a comparison with the REG tie-up sites, it seems that your REG info is coming solely from ACARS reports. Those that have not been picked up on ACARS are not listed on here when searching by the REG.
Right but this doesn’t make any sense using the link you’ve given. The flight is currently enroute HNL-SFO as I write but the next planned leg is ORD-DEN. Forgive my ignorance but last time I checked, transporters had not yet been invented.
In another thread nearby the airlines with tail number info were listed as:
…Well, availability on the web doesn’t always result in an available data source. Fortunately, they are on the list, though – United, Delta, Continental, Frontier, Air Canada, Thai, El Al, Singapore, Air New Zealand, SAS, ANA…and some smaller carriers. More coming all the time…
Think I am correct in repeating that (albeit not in a quote box).
Well no, it didn’t. Nor did it go to ORD or DEN either - it went back to HNL, so whatever these ‘sources’ are for the REG info, there seems to be some reliability issues.
Well, Daniel tells us it’s coming from the airline (UA). They schedule a plane for a rotation but obviously that can change.
At one point N212UA was scheduled for ORD-DEN but it didn’t happen. I think you have to take future assignments as simply an indicator. Once the flight is in progress the tail number is probably correct. as N212UA appears to be now.
COA315 currently enroute TJBQ-KEWR and showing as such on the map. A/c is being op by N72405 and confirmed on CO website and just heard on selcal as well. Keying in N72405 only shows past flight and future flight from KEWR, not the actual flight enroute now.
