Might be cool for people in the UK if ADS-B or Mode-S is required there, but not very practical yet in the US. Very few aircraft here are equipped with transponders that will work with that system. But their number is growing and they will probably be required here in a few years. Unless technological improvements make them obsolete before the FAA can adopt a rule, which is ALWAYS a possibiliy!
