My PiAware will not connect to the internet. I have made sure the credentials are correct (SSID, Password) and have even put the gateway under the extra configuration in the piaware-config file. I have disabled wired connections. When I boot the device, the wired connection is “unknown” and the wireless connection shows up as “down”. I’m unsure what to do. If it helps, FlightAware sent me a Raspberry Pi Zero W. Note that I don’t have a keyboard to use for the CMD commands. I also don’t have any WiFi adapters as I read that the Pi should have one built-in.
Sorry, but your post is a little cryptic.
How many Pi’s are you using? (what models?)
Any special characters in your SSID?
Connecting to the internet isn’t you problem when you can’t connect to your local network. Have you tried using wired ethernet?
Hi, thank you for responding. I am using one Raspberry Pi Zero W. There are no special characters in the SSID. I currently do not have any ports for a wired connection on the Pi so I can’t use wired internet.
You can purchase a USB dongle that provides a ethernet wired connect to the Pi Zero. Give that a go and I believe you will be pleased with that network connection. I did that very thing with the Pi Zero system I ran originally.
Thanks so much! I’ll definitely try that.
But you will still have have a Pi ZeroW which is almost brain dead. (Speaking from experience here)
Spend a bit more and get a Pi4 rather than an add on WiFi dongle and USB hub and you will get a 4 core processor and at least 1MB of RAM along with 4 USB ports and an Ethernet port.
The PiZeroW will run out of CPU as soon as you add any of the wonderfull @wiedehopf software such as graphs1090.
Yes the Pi Zero W is CPU limited and I started with one and then proceeded to upgrade to the Rpi-4. Point is, they have a Pi Zero currently to work with and they have asked for assistance in making the best of it.
Noted. Will probably end up getting a Pi4 anyway.
I was not trying to contradict you.
I merely pointed out that for about the same dollars as a USB Ethernet dongle plus a powered USB hub you can buy a Pi4B which is almost future proof.
I will now quietly crawl back into my burrow.
Happy New Yeay to all.

Liked your expression
I guess you meant 1 GB. But if fcarlos10 does get a Pi4, probably should get 2 GB version minimum.
NTW,Not To Worry! No need to burrow.
Happy New Year
Yes RAM is good! I bought the 8G version with the big horns! Very pleased with it.
Thank you all for your help! Right now I’m waiting for the power cable to arrive for the Pi4. Got the 4GB version. Happy New Year!
I’m old enough to remember when 1 MB of RAM was de rigueur for RAM in a home computer. I believe the original Mac+ had 1 MB of RAM. The original Mac only had 128 KB — yes 128,000 bytes !
First system here was a Intel 4 bit processor, 4004, with 2K Ram, 4K OS in an EPROM (Assembly code only). Don’t think it would have run ADSB in 1976. Very happy to have improved the system through many generations of CPU’s since then. Merry Christmas and hope we have a much better New Year. My best to all.
The first computer was an Apple. It was owned by Adam & Eve. It had extremely low memory, just one bite, and everything crashed.
Guess What This Is?
It’s a hard disk drive back in 1956 … with 5 MB of storage.
In September 1956 IBM launched the 305 RAMAC, the first ‘SUPER’ computer with a hard disk drive (HDD).
The HDD weighed over a ton and stored a ‘whopping’ 5 MB of data.
Do you appreciate your Pi4 with 8 GB RAM a little more now?
