thanks Bob - will try moving my rig to the attic this weekend - using my current Colinear wire antenna.
As you suggest, will monitor and report back!

I moved mine from about mid-level on my 2nd floor, to about 10 feet higher into the attic where I put a clamp to hold it to a rafter. I’ve noticed maybe a tiny increase in observations, but nothing truly significant for my move… it could be location too, since the rafter is blocking the North sight, where ATL is, or that the previous weeks were unusual in terms of flights going south near me that I could detect due to where the Jetstream was, and everyone rerouting so far south to catch it(LAX-JFK routing over ATL).
Up on one of my usual soapboxes again – this is where tracking your system against a reference (someone else in the area with stable numbers) becomes invaluable – doing a comparison against the reference helps to cancel out those day-to-day variations.

Oh I agree, and if I had reference stations on my side of the area, I’d love to compare. The main issue is I’m easily 30-40 miles from the other area stations from what I can see. I’m ~20mi South of ATL, and everyone else is 10+ mi North of ATL(or some difference off it). They’re able to get all the arrivals on the North side, and also probably catch far more towards CHA and BNA than I am, just due to sight lines. I am getting far better performance since I went to a Cantenna, just really inconsistent results since I moved it to the attic.

If you look at my stats page, I have two feeders, one in the attic and one in a bedroom window. The attic has a cantenna and the bedroom has a ground plane. When I only had one RPi, I switched out the cantenna and the ground plane. Both were close in performance from the same attic location, but the cantenna seemed a little bit better.
The attic RPi has much better position report totals and about a 300-400 daily increase in aircraft totals as compared to the window RPi.
