WRAY, Colo. – Two people were killed when twin-engine plane crashed near Wray Thursday morning.

A reporter with the Wray Gazette newspaper went to the crash location, about 7 miles north of Wray, along Highway 385. She said the plane went down in a field.

National Transportation Safety Board spokesman Peter Knudson says the pilot had been in contact with air traffic controllers Thursday seeking direction because of poor visibility. The dual-engine, 11-passenger Gulfstream AC-90 crashed about 7 miles north of the airport about 7:30 a.m.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Mike Fergus says the plane burned following the impact. Only the tail was still recognizable sticking up from the charred wreckage.

Wray is about 140 miles east of Denver.

According to flight records, the plane had taken off from Centennial Airport in Arapahoe County just before 6:30 a.m., and is registered to a lawyer in Palmer, Texas.
