Diverted to LBB from original TEB to SAF flight plan. Fuel stop? Or something else?
EditCHEAP JetA in LBB almost $3/gal cheaper than SAF.
I don’t believe it would be lack of prist as it appears that the last radar return was a little over 10,000 feet. Possible mechanical failure. What was the weather at the time (any convective activity/icing?). I realize its been warm but there could’ve been some build-up…just a guess
WEATHER: 0453Z SAF 11007 10SM CLR 16/01 A3044
Conditions were clear at the time of the crash, with little to no ambient light available from the New Moon. SAF lies southwest of the city, and the area surrounding the airport is largely unincorporated.
That was a very long day for the pilot, and collided with low lying hills very near the airport.

That link goes to the Santa Fe New Mexican story in this morning’s local paper. Not a bad story as these things go, except for the comments about the wine bottles strewn about the accident site.
I’ve been in Santa Fe for the last 10 days, and there have been widely scattered thunderstorms and rainshowers about in the evenings. But I didn’t notice much near the city last night, and we were out late checking out the stars…
thanks for sharing the link.
