If a plane has mode-S transponder without position you will not see the plane on the SkyView map.
If MLAT is on then your PiAware will send extra data to FlightAware for planes without position. FlightAware will use the extra data from 4+ nearby sites to calculate where the signal is coming from and then return the MLAT position to your site. The plane will then show up as an MLAT plane on your SkyView map.
Cons is that your site will usually double in the amount of data sent to FlightAware.
