I have two identical setups for FlightAware and ADSB-Exchange. Both are running on identical Raspberry Pi and were installed with the latest images. They are both connected to two identical antenna only a few feet apart. ADSB-Exchange is showing many more planes than Flightaware. I have even exchanged the SD cards between the two Pi with the same results so it can’t be hardware related (can it?)
ADSB exchange doesn’t filter aircraft on request.
Flightaware does, so you might be seeing aircraft on ADSBexchange that aren’t on Flightaware.
Are you running Dump1090-FA on both setups ?
Are they running on the same gain setting ?
It might be a software thing and not a hardware issue.
Yes to both running Dump1090-FA.
Not sure about the gain - how do I check ?
install graphs1090 to see the performance on your systems.
If you use autogain it will display the gain setting.
After installation wait 10 minutes for the first results, after 24 hrs you have a daily overview.
Log into you pi and issue the follwowing command
sudo systemctl status dump1090-fa
It will generate some output and one of the lines ( line 6) will tell you what the gain is on that setup.
Ok - many thanks - I will take a look
