HackRF as a device type

I see several announcements of HackRF support but I can’t see where to configure it per the documentation here with the config file: PiAware - Advanced Configuration Settings - FlightAware

I would have thought there would be a receiver-type hackrf option.

If I manually start dump1090-fa I can get it to see the hackrf, but it’s not “feeding” it

I have tried this on the command line by itself also to no avail:
/usr/share/dump1090-fa/start-dump1090-fa --device-type hackrf --write-json /run/dump1090-mutability/

You’d need to use a package install for this, the sdcard installs don’t know how to configure it.

Are there any documents/links you could point me to as a hint? I tried a fresh install from packages and it still needs some sort of config to get going.

I don’t have a hackrf on hand to test with, but I believe it’s just a case of setting RECEIVER=hackrf in /etc/default/dump1090-fa

Thanks, that worked!

Incidentally, for anyone trying it - the HackRF is lousy at doing this… definitely not the best use case for a HackRF, the cheap dongles do way better.

I wanted to say that… I paid $150 for an Airspy R2 and I though it is a bit too much.
$350 for a HackRF is way out there. Like cracking nuts with a microscope.
