David Clarke H10 60 problems?

I bought two headsets, one is a David Clarke H10 60 and one is a Sigtronics S-58 both are used (especially the Clarke). The D Clarke is great, other than the fact that it’s uncomfortable. With no sunglasses, it’s tolerable, and with sunglasses (even really thin ones) it feels like a metal clamp on my head. The Sigtronics, however, are very comfortable even with thick, nasty sunglasses. It fits perfectly and it feels like a pillow.

I’ve heard a lot of great things about David Clarke and relatively little about Sigtronics, and I really like wearing the signature green headsets (they look much more professional than the Sigtronics). Knowing it has been (very) used, what could be causing this? It doesn’t feel uncomfortable enough to be broken, but it doesn’t feel comfortable enough to be those godly green headsets everyone has been raving about. How should I go about fixing it?

The difference is the DC’s will still work 20 years from now

Yep, I have had both my DC and Sigtronics as extras for passengers.

I still have my DC from training days (10 years ago and going strong) and replaced the lesser used Sigtronics.

I will agree with TheEggman the clamping force after a couple hour flight can be rather excessive but for short flights, I don’t mind it.

I’m talking about short flights too. Even for an hour, it’s hard to keep it on, and when you do its simply not comfortable. I know the DCs are better quality, I’m just wondering what I can do to make them more comfortable, because I’d hate to see such a great headset sit in my closet for my first few years of flying.

Don’t tuck your sunglasses under your ear seals. set the arms of your sunglasses on top of them they’ll sit on your face at an angle but you’ll get used to that

Send them back to DC and tell them the problem, they’ll probably replace the headband spring. Or, you could try taking some of the bend out of the existing spring yourself by stretching it. Even if you break the spring it’s only a $6.50 part.

What condition are the ear seals? They can be replaced if worn, plus there are foam and gel type seals available. My DCs are 10 years old, and have a lot of life to live. Might have to put them in my will as they may outlast me.

Might try the Oregon Aero earseals. They make a big difference.

I pulled the ear seals off of the sigtronics and stuck them on the David Calrks. Problem solved! Thanks for your help.
