Click on the name of member on the FA site, then use “send message” facility.

I too think this would be a good facility and am also puzzled by the 'send message suggestion.

another thing that is helpful to setup in preferences/profile Web Site to your flightaware stats like i did. this way others can find you easier. but there is no option from e.g. nearby sites to dircetly send a message - you always have to first search/find the user by his username in forum …
