1000 NM is just out into The Coral Sea east of Townsville.
If the signal from east of Taiwan is real it is significantly further. Probably closer to 4000 NM

The Pi and all the other hardware was left there when my friends left the Island.
It was turned on mounted on a tower at the airport for about 6 months and then sadly disappeared without a trace.

Physically disappeared (dismantelled/stolen), or disappeared from the internet (Pi crashed or connection broken)?
It stopped reporting to flightaware.
After a week i tried emailing the gentleman but received no reply.
No further information.
It was good while it lasted.
