Clean install mutability and collectd on top of piAware?

Evening gents

Getting back into this scene after my Pi was seduced by the darkside (temporarily re-purposed as a cam server).

Was fine with all this in the past (as my thread history will attest to) , but cant quite get my head round it this time…

So, I have PiAware 2.1-3 running and feeding fine.

I also have my original installs of Mutability, collectD and PlaneFinder feeder installed, but cant get them to work:

Mutabilty:
Reports “Problem fetching data from dump1090”

Issuing the STOP command to mutability gives

“No user/bin/dump1090-mutability found running; none killed”.

Trying to START mutability dumps back to the command prompt - issuing the start command - which i believe should say it’s already running - does the same, which I believe implies it isnt actually running?

The graphing at /collectd/ shows no adsb stats (just the Pi temps), which I again believe shows that mutability isnt running?

I did recently update to piAware 2.1-3, which i believe has set the default dump1090 as the default, over mutability.

So, what i’d like to do is uninstall mutability and collectd etc so i’m left with the “default” piAware 2.1-3 basics, get back to a “Last Known Good” ( ) state - then reinstall mutability and collectd from there…

Can someone give me a poke in the right direction?

Ta

PS - getting my spider antenna + amp moved to the outside of the roof later this week - looking forward to feeding some good data into the community!

Check the dump1090-mutability logs in /var/log/dump1090-mutability.log

Perhaps you haven’t disabled the original dump1090? If it’s still running, dump1090-mutability won’t be able to use the dongle.

You can do a full uninstall of dump1090-mutability by “sudo apt-get --purge remove dump1090-mutability”.

Thanks Obj,

using a sudo killall dump1090, I then restarted mutability manually (using Start switch).

I’ve had the Pi turned off while I put my antenna on a mast above my roof line…
This is now done (!) and I had the same issue (and solution) once the Pi restarted.

All feeders are back up and running as expected, so all good - just a couple of queries:

  1. AFAIR, I need to permanently disable / remove the original dump1090 ? Err, remind me how?

  2. One of the tools I used in the past allowed you to see a “range map” (polar map?) overlaid on the Gmap, showing a colored “spider” of directions on ranges aircraft had been received. (Just like on VRS). I’m sure this was on the Pi itself, and may have been an option on the gmap itself… looking back through my old posts, forums and tools - cant for the life of me think where / what it was - anyone else know how I can “enable” this?

Thanks
