I was listening to liveatc when the pilot called in with an emergency. He did not specify the problem but was not going to make the airport and would try for a field near Cal Poly. Another airplane went over and reported the champ hit the trees about 50’ off the ground then disappeared into the stand of trees.
According to news reports two men were taken to the hospital, one got out on his own the other appeared unconscious according to a witness.
