I wish that was true! I just tried to view a flight map from a friend’s flight today (N707LJ)…there is no map for this flight on my BB. What’s the deal? ![]()
to: dbaker (FlightAware staff),
I was pleasantly surprised to have you reply to my earlier post concerning the BlackBerry Curve 8330 the “flight map” issue. But the problem is definitely not fixed in spite of your post saying it is. Are you willing/inclined to continue to address the issue to a successful completion? Before FlightAware introduced the expanded offering of other (Wx, etc.) maps, I could view an on-going or recent flight map just fine.
This has been resolved.
I’m very sorry, but in spite of assurances from FlightAware that the problem
with viewing flight maps with a BB 8330 has been “fixed” and/or “resolved”, it simply has not been. One can still not view flight maps on a BB 8330 period! I do appreciate any and all efforts to solve the problem…please don’t give up. Thank you for continuing to work with me.
Indeed, the BB 8330 now displays flight maps. Thanks to all who contributed to solve the problem! I truly appreciate FlightAware’s willingness to work this out for me and others! Thank you!! ![]()
Thanks for using FlightAware!
now that there’s a new Iphone app, we need a pilot/BB developer to come up with an app that works with flightaware. As a Blackberry addict my understanding is that its a lot harder to make an app for the BB than it is for the IPHONE. Based on graphics, memory and tools to do the job. It can be done, but I think we need someone that a expert at it, and we might have to pay. Hopefully there is someone out there that can do it ![]()
I have not been able to view flight maps on my 8330 since the upgrade. Pre-upgrade, the maps displayed fine.
I love the upgrade and wish that I could take advantage of it on the BB.
Any suggestions?
Tnx

A Blackberry app would be awesome!! I have the Tour.
Henry,
Can you post the browser string from Session Diagnostics - FlightAware? Maps are working on FlightAware staff blackberries.
Help…
Where do I find the browser string?
I am using Opera…no joy. background displays but no aircraft
just tried the BB default browser. I can indeed see the maps but they are the old style…no zoom, random data blocks, etc
If this is taking up too much bandwidth, we can do this via PM
tnx
Ahh, that explains it. I think we treat all versions of Opera like the desktop version. I’ll see if we can detect mini/mobile and act accordingly.
That’s correct, the browsers available on a BB don’t support the fancy new maps, so you get the old style.
Thank you
I’m still trying to figure out how to find the browser string
It’s the first line in the body of the /fix page (Your browser is…).
OK…I went to the useragent.com website and this is what was reported:
Opera/9.80 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/4.1.11355/812; U; en) Presto/2.2.0
Is this what I was asked to supply?
Yes.
Strange, Opera Mini should already be detected as mobile and the site should emit the old maps.
Mobile View turned on—
the map now shows up as “tiles” arranged vertically. even the east-west tiles appear to be displayed vertically can scroll up/down but not right/ left.
can’t see much of anything. since i live near the water…almost everything is blue
Mobile View turned off—
very small section of map now appears which included zoom and directional buttons. None of this stuff is functional. BB scroll arrow not visible, view buttons appear (sectional, classic, earth view) but have no way of activating them since BB arrow positioned by track ball has disappeared. BTW, when I made original post, I was only seeing shades of green on this view
Any word on the blackberry app in development? We’re still waiting. Iphone App looks good but a BB app would be much appreciated!! Thanks!
Yes, a BB application is long over due and would be much appreciated!!
9700 BB bold here, can’t wait for app. comes out, my girl works at vision airline as flight attendant, and I have to login all the time in the net to see her flights,
Maybe with an app. Will be a lot easier to see all the flights
