Alert limit for a third party

I am a ‘simple’ user, tracking individual flights every now and then.
I wanted to add a third-party but was told that the email address already had 5 alerts.
I don’t believe the person has a FW account, and three of the alerts are for flights that completed 2 days ago.
How does the third party clear the Alert history? Does FW clear it automatically and, if so, when?
