Hi, I’m new here and looking for community and really hoping you can help spark a discussion. It might go in some interesting places. I’m assuming you’re all flight/aviation/data nerds. I’m not really. I’m a science writer. I’ve written about all kinds of subjects over the years, and also written three books (nothing aviation-related though). I’m more generally interested in airports and how they work. So, I’m curious about who uses these data on the FlightAware site and what they can be used for. Do they say anything meaningful about airports generally? Are there good airports and bad airports? What makes an airport good? Are there airports that are so bad, they should just be avoided? The entire air travel system seems so fragile sometimes: how could it be improved? Is there anyone here who studies it formally and can explain it to me? For instance, when a bunch of flights are delayed in, say, DFW, it obviously has a knock-on effect across the entire system, nationally yes, but then also globally too. Who studies that, who regulates it, how can I learn more about it? I can only come out of any exchange on here smarter than when I entered it, so don’t be shy! I’m looking for knowledge. Thanks!
You know this site?
You will get several feedbacks and comments if you simply search for an airport on that site. I am not sure if you get lots of feedback here.
