AA 924

Just noticed a news item about this flight. A passenger was shot and killed after a landing in Miami. He claimed he had a bomb in his carry on bag.

The passenger, who indicated there was a bomb in the bag, was confronted by air marshals but ran off the aircraft, Doyle said.

The marshals pursued and ordered the passenger to get on the ground, but the man did not comply and was shot when apparently reaching into the bag, Doyle said. Authorities did not immediately say whether any bomb was found. Passenger Mary Gardner told WTVJ in Miami that the man ran down the aisle from the rear of the plane. “He was frantic, his arms flailing in the air,” she said. She said a woman followed, shouting, “My husband! My husband!” Gardner said she heard the woman say her husband was bipolar and had not had his medication.

Certainly tragic, whatever the final conclusion is. However, it sounds like he wasn’t even on the plane when this happened.

This is my home town. Local news wfor.com (cbs affiliate) should have video up on the incident, and CNN.com also has it. Tragic, but at least we know the marshalls are there. They didn’t really have a choice, he would have been in the terminal next, and if he had really had a bomb…who knows what would have happened. You can also check local10.com (abc affiliate), wsvn.com (local channel 7…fox affiliate) or nbc6.net (nbc affiliate) They all give you our local perspective. Just another beautiful day in Miami!

This week is a dark week for aviation. One day, a bipolar man is shot by air marshalls after he shouted he had a bomb. Then on thursday, a Southwest 737-700 crashed at KMDW after landing on an icy runway, crashing into an intersection and killing a child and injuring several others.

Whats next?
