thanks in advance 8)

flightaware.com/live/flight/BOE5 … /KPAE/KPAE

flightaware.com/live/flight/BOE5 … E/tracklog shows the dip to 4900 ft and 80 kts groundspeed.

is that even possible or is it an error?

Maybe they looped her

an immelman to change direction??

Could be a decent headwind.

I doubt the wind was blowing 100kts at 4900ft. in less there is a hurricane

PAE is where Boeing builds all dual isle aircraft(747-767-777-787),They have lots of test/shak down flights out of there before delivery to the buyer.
The first time I flew out of PAE I was preflighting and a 747-400 did a V1 abort to full stop then went right back to the other end and did it again in less then 5 min later, that had me going,I ask the tower controller what was going on and he said Boeing just doing testing.

Looking at the tracklog:
02:08PM 43.01 -124.56 80 4900 Seattle Center

I plotted the coordinates, and that location is just south of Coos Bay where the plane did a u-turn from South to North

I keep getting 50 or 60 kts of wind at 2000’, so maybe he had 100 kts at 5000!

Windshear anyone?

you can get the Vso of a 747-400 to 138Kias at NLW, lower weights could get you slower so you dont need much wind. VrefFlp30 at NLW is 136Kias

could you translate some of that pilot stuff for us non pilot people. :stuck_out_tongue:

I flew in that area for 2 years- 100kt head winds at 5,000 is something you only see during a severe storm

Vso = stall dirty"gear out"(stall is when the Wing quits making lift nothing to do with engines)
NLW= Normal landing weight
VrefFlp30= the speed you would fly final approch with flaps @ 30deg gear out.“LandingConfig”

Vs =would be clean stall “Cruise Config”(no gear or flaps out)

Note It has a very large useful load can hold over 57000 gal(342000lbs) of fuel plus cargo. you dont land with less 5000gal (30000lbs)of fuel!
So if you get it light(no cargo and 60000-70000 lbs of fuel) stall could go way down 10-30% less???(would have to have the books for the exact numbers) so with a little wind(20-30) the 80 Kias could be real if he was out doing slow flight.

thanks for the information. puting all of that in the knowledge bank.
