VA Flight Caused Problems on Dulles Runway
Several flights trying to land at Washington Dulles International Airport had to be diverted after a plane declared an emergency.
The Colgan Air flight from Charlottesville, Virginia declared an emergency about 3 p.m. Thursday. It landed safely but couldn’t move off the runway under its own power. Passengers were unloaded on the runway, and the plane had to be towed to the gate.
Meanwhile, several incoming flights had to be diverted while the plane remained on the runway. Some with low fuel were diverted to Richmond, while others circled until the plane was cleared.
Operations at Dulles Airport returned to normal by about 3:30 p.m.
