@SoNic67
Thanks.
At Amazon dot com, the shipping charges to Canada are almost same as the cost of antenna.
I checked same item by same seller on Amazon dot ca, says “Currently unavailable”

I’m in the UK and bought this one; it performs very well.
Those international rates look good. However I wasn’t suggesting you buy it; just pointing out another ADS-B specific mini mag mount whip model with a different length and quoted dBi .
Same problem at Amazon in Australiawhere the delivery cost is slightly more than the
item cost $35.93
I’ll leave it to you you, kind readers, to convert the price in $AU to your local currency.
If I buy from Amazon US the price is much more reasonable
Price: $7.89 + $5.27 shipping

I am sorry for you guys, but the reason in US prices are so low is, IMO (not a politician here) that we don’t have socialized medical system. So no import taxes for any goods from China, and we feel 5% sales tax that started to be charged by Amazon recently is a outrage…
Yes, we get f***t if we get sick (and we didn’t consider that we need that expensive health insurance), but in change, our toys are cheap (cars, laptops, 4K TV’s, phones, ADS-B antennas)
Ok, no problem shipping cost. I have now arranged one with zero price+zero shipping cost
My DIY whip under test
More accurately it’s your DIY whip on a biscuit tin lid indoors on a table next to a window with blinds under test. Although if they stay constant for other whips you test, you can get a subjective comparison between whips.
They do stay constant.
I simply unscrewed 1/4 whip and screwed DIY whip in its place. Everything else unchanged.
I think that the 5mm distance, between the phase shifter horizontal portions, might create some by-pass capacitance between portion of the signal that are in opposition of phase.
The antenna with a coil of the same length has a distributed capacitance too, but the phase difference is smaller between two coils, so the effect is less pronounced (or shifted to higher frequency).
It might not affect the gain too much though. Without having two identical systems to test, in the same location it’s just a guess.
PS: I can donate an Orange Pi One with case, PS (5V/3A, barrel) and 16GB microSD if you are interested (and by that I mean willing to pay the shipping from VA). Details over PM.
The US levies very high tariffs (import taxes) on most Chinese products. Many chapter 8541 and 8542 products on the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (mainly electronics and electronic components) have general tariffs of 3% to 15%. There are special tariffs on certain products that can be far grater than 100%. The end consumer does not see these taxes because they are paid by the importer and included in the product cost.
I don’t think that’s the reason. The US spends way more on healthcare than any country with socialised medicine. The difference is that the US system has the aim of making money for healthcare companies, whereas everyone else’s has the aim of delivering healthcare efficiently to everyone.
That US system is seemingly accepted widely by Americans is somewhat baffling to anyone who lives where there is socialised medicine. I doubt you’d find many people willing to swap.
While speaking to a friend in the US recently after my fall, he first asked me how much it cost to have the surgery and then stopped himself as he realised I wouldn’t have to pay out anything for it. When I descried what I’d had done, he estimated it would have cost him somewhere between $50,000 and $60,000.
Many years ago, I considered moving to the US and it was the health ‘care’ system that put me off.
But we digress. The FA aerial looks like a simple collinear to me, nothing complicated there at all.

I like my US healthcare. I pay a fixed amount for insurance each month of approximately $400. For that I have a $10 physician co-pay, a $50 hospital or ER co-pay and a $10 prescription co-pay. I do not pay for radiology, physical therapy or any other medical service such as in-home nursing visits after a medical procedure. I rarely have to wait more than two or three days for an appointment with a physician, specialist or surgery. I’d hate to wait weeks for a procedure as the case of socialized medicine (Canada, UK).

I have 3 FA antennas in my attic and have had no issues with them. I am planning the split the signal from one antenna to supply two dongles in an effort to improve upon a DIY octopus ground plane.
I said pretty much the same thing as you…
Like UK’s NHS, Canadian Heathcare provides healthcare with the aim of delivering healthcare efficiently to everyone. The healthcares are run and financed by provincial governments, and the patients get it almost free.
I think the reason is that both UK & Canada have Monarchy, while US dont have it.
Canada’s healthcare system technically may not be “socialized” healthcare, but when the government controls prices, payments to providers, etc. it might as well be socialized healthcare. The only thing missing is that providers are not government employees. BTW a few years back a co-worker of mine had to wait 3 weeks to get a broken arm repaired in Sainte-Adèle, Quebec. Life threatening, no; debilitating, yes.
I probably pay less for healthcare than Canadian’s do with the exceedingly high provincial and national taxes required to provide universal healthcare. To me healthcare is not a right. Rather it is a personal expense the such as food, shelter and clothing.
Well the long wait has a hidden benefit: during this long wait, in most cases either the sickness cures by natural healing, or the patient passes away - savings in healthcare cost.
May you be blessed by the latter.
