USB SDR failing?

Hi All:

I upgraded from the standard SDR USB dongle to the FA SDR USB dongle back early in August. Overnight, the piaware stopped reporting seeing aircraft, and a quick lsusb on the system no longer showed the FA SDR installed. Rebooted, cold and warm, to no avail. Had another Rpi3 so I swapped it; the system came up, albeit briefly, then also didn’t report. lsusb that had previously shown the SDR no longer showed it. Rebooted, and it worked for about 45 seconds, then this ended up in the logs:

48.657905] usb 1-1.3: USB disconnect, device number 4
48.891946] usb 1-1.3: new full-speed USB device number 5 using dwc_otg

50.731961] usb 1-1.3: device not accepting address 8, error -32
50.732067] usb 1-1-port3: unable to enumerate USB device

After than I couldn’t get the radio working again, but i tried the old SDR dongle and it works fine… swapped back to the original Rpi3 and the old dongle works there too.

What could be wrong? Is this a hardware failure? If so, is it still under warranty? It’s only been running for a few months; the older dongle has been running much longer.

Please help!

Best,
jm

Try a different power supply.

Also, “bathtub curve”

I have not only used a different power supply (from different manufacturers – all 2500ma), I have used different rpi3’s. And swapped back to the original wit the old SDR and I’m in service, but not getting the benefit of the Flightaware branded SDR with it’s internal amp… That does not seem to be the problem. Any other ideas?

If you’ve tried a different PSU then yeah, that sounds like a failing prostick.

is there a warranty on these? It’s only 2 months old… If so how do I request replacement?
