Upgraded FlightAware and broke my other feeders!

Afternoon All,

I upgraded my raspberry Pi Flightaware feeder to the latest version recently and it has now broken my FR24 and PlaneFinder feeders. I got in touch with FlightAware and they recommended this forum might be able to help?

Thanks in advance

maybe you can explain how the other feeds are broken ?
We don’t have much to go on now in order to determine the issue

I feed FlightAware, FlightRadar24, and PlaneFinder and since upgrading FlightAware the other two services are reporting my station as being offline. Tech Support at FlightRadar 24 asked me to log into my raspberry Pi and issue two commands and send them the output, the first command was lsb_release --all and the second command was ip a

Below are the outputs from both of those commands if that might help you troubleshoot?

Hello Dave,

You are using the Piaware Image or an addon package installation ?
Addtional question what equipment are you using ? A FA feeder supplied by FA or a setup you created yourself ?

What is the status of the FR24 status page ?
It is located at http://ip.adress.of.pi:8754/
normally it will look like this

Hi Tom,

I used the PiAware image. A setup I created myself that ahs been running for a number of years without any problems.

When I try to access that page I get this: Hmmm… can’t reach this page

192.168.1.28 refused to connect.

The IP adress should be correct but let’s check all the properties:
issue the following command
ifconfig

Since you don’t get the FR24 status page it looks like the FR24 software isn’t running at all.

Check this with the following command :
sudo service fr24feed status

Normally you would get something like this :

If you get an error or the statement that the service isn’t available you might want to reinstall the FR24 software again.

  1. Look up your present sharing key on the statistics page from FR24 for this feeder. you will need the sharing key when rerunning the software in order to retain your statistics.
  2. Run the steps on this page to reinstall the FR24 software.
Follow all steps including the setup steps in order to complete the process. You don’t need to claim a new sharing key, use the old one.
Make sure to disable MLAT as requested on the page.
Use the settings below for your FR24 feeder settings page

By default I have logging disabled but you can choose to enable the logfile mode.

Watch for any errors during the installation proces.

Let’s look what that does and then we can look into it further.

As for Planefinder, I don’t use that software so I can’t help with that but I’m sure others will fill in when they see the progression here

I think you could be right as inputting that command gives me Unit FR24feed
.service could not be found

Can you provide me with a link so I can reinstall FR24 without messing up my FlightAware feeder please?

Follow the steps on this page

look at my previous post to make sure you do the things in the right order.

Working on that now Tom, many thanks!

You’re welcome

I suspect you might have overlooked the installation of that software as well.

Look at step3 of this post  https://forum.planefinder.net/threads/raspberry-pi-b-zero-rpi2-rpi3-rpi4-installation-instructions-for-raspbian-dump1090-data-feeder.241/

I believe so my friend

And I now have PlaneFinder up and running.

Many thanks for all your assistance with this.

Sincerely

Dave
