Does FlightAware get ADS-B data directly from the UK government / ATC?
No, the data comes from people (like me) who run a Raspberry Pi based ADS-B tracking station at home.
Thanks for the reply. I’m aware there are ground receivers and very grateful for the work you do. But what I’m referring to is this:
“In addition to receiving over 45 different government air traffic control and private datalink sources, FlightAware operates a worldwide network of ADS-B and Mode S receivers”
“FlightAware receives ATC RADAR positions and flight plan information from Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) in 45 countries.”
I am trying to find out if the UK is one of those 45 counties. Perhaps, reading back, it is not ADS-B but something else.
Reason: I am using some data I have purchased from FlightAware for research and would like to quote the source.
It’s called ASDI data.
Aircraft situation display to Industry. And there is a UK option.
@taitshome Ah right, you’ve obviously read into it more deeply than I have! Guess it makes sense that all the background flight info must come from sources other than our little boxes.
