Set Up Suggestions

Good evening all. I recently moved to an RV. I had my setup in the attic in my house with good results. I used to use a small plastic container to put my rig in on the roof of my RV but heat became a problem. looked at a long antenna cable, but not sure if that is the right option, Just wanted to see what the others suggest, Cheers

I use my PiAware all the time in my car sitting at a site with a good magnetic antenna mount.

Don’t be afraid of a long antenna cable. If it’s top quality cable of the proper impedance to match your system and antenna then it’s no problem at all. In fact, it enables you to settle your FlightAware system inside your RV where the temperature is much more favorable to a computer processor that benefits from proper cooling.

Do you know of a website i can purchase tla extended cable/antenna. A bigger antenna
woukd help too. I have a flightaware stick with a filter.

What antenna are you currently using? I use the dedicated 1090 stick antenna sold by FlightAware and it works well for me. I also bought the coax cable from them and it is a great quality cable. I needed a 15 meter cable but they offer a 5 and 10 meter version also depending on your needs. This is the coax cable link.

This is where the antenna plugs in

FlightAware 1090 MHz Antenna | ADS-B Flight Tracking
Is this the antenna you are using from FlightAware? This is what I have.

No mine is a 6 inch plastic one, magnetic bottom

Is it designed specifically for the 1090mhz or is it more of a wide banded design of sorts? Best to have a dedicated antenna on a mast that you can get up in the air above reflecting obstructions.

I agree, does it come with a base?

It comes with a clamp style aluminum base with 2 u-bolts for clamping to a mast pole. I use EMT metal pipe for a mast.

Ok. Think im gonna upgrade to this, plus a co ax cable. Thanks for you help dude.

Good luck with the new parts and pieces when they arrive. Enjoy.

air802.com or pasternack.com for cables.
