Hey,
I am planning to install the ADS-B receiver, using the custom Raspberry-pi board and other components mentioned on the website flightaware.com/adsb/piaware/build
I had a few questions in mind, please revert back on the same at the earliest.
What is the range of the antenna?
Where to place the antenna and the Flight feeder actually(physically)?
What all will be required except a power cord and an ethernet cable?
What all flights can be tracked? Will it receive data from the air traffic control station or from flights directly?
How can we access this data? In what format?
The antenna that comes with it has a range of about 160km. A proper external one will be closer to 40km.
Where to place the antenna and the Flight feeder actually(physically)?
Minimally, the antenna needs to be by a window or outside it. Ideally, it’s mounted on top of a roof, free of obstructions. It needs line-of-sight to anything it’s going to track.
What all will be required except a power cord and an ethernet cable?
Nothing aside from what’s on the shopping list.
What all flights can be tracked? Will it receive data from the air traffic control station or from flights directly?
Flights with Mode S and ADS-B transponders. Data is received from the aircraft.
How can we access this data? In what format?
Via a web interface to PiAware, via FlightAware, and via various TCP ports in different Mode S data formats when connecting directly to PIAware.
Thank you so much for the answers. They were really helpful.
I had only one doubt still remaining regarding the range of the antenna. Will this antenna mentioned here in the buying list provide a range of 160KM? ebay.com/itm/160896092118
And which external antenna that you mentioned will provide a range of 40KM? Can you suggest me some external antenna or some link?
