This is my problem, Antihistamines and I don’t get along. They allways make me feel worse after taking them. Whats funny is i feel fine, My nose is clear. I can hear just fine, Just plugged ears. I’ll try the ear wax remover this afternoon and hope it works but i have tried the warm water in the past and it did not.
Well I tried the Murine, So far nothing but it does say to use it for 4 days.
Since i dont have to fly for a few days i’m thinking of trying Benadrly even though the stuff makes me fell like S*@#
I’ll check into it but I thought that when it comes to meds like Benadrly you could not use while flying. I know with some meds there is up to a 48 hours from last dosage before flight.
Have not tried anything yet, Except what Jhem offered up. Menthol crystals worked great before with no side effects. The Pharmacy I went to today said you don’t need a prescription but they did not carry them. I will look other places. Allergy meds always mess me up big time so i never take them. Even non drowsy ones do a number.
There are a lot of good allergy medications that are more topical, ie Nasonex that you spray in your nose. Nasonex is an anti inflammation corticosteroid. If you have fluid in your ears as result of an allergy reaction, this will help stop the production of those fluids. In more severe cases you double Nasonex with 5mg of Clarinex, a mild antihistamine. I know a pilot who occasionally takes both and his ears pop and there is great relief within a few minutes. *
You might first try to separate yourself from the allergens that are causing you trouble in the first place. It might be as simple as cleaning your home thoroughly and more frequently, especially your bedroom and bedding. If you have hay fever, don’t work in your yard. Do you live with pets?
You can also try some anti inflammatory aids such as Bayer or Advil. Pop a couple of those about an hour before you fly. Also nasal sprays can help. My pilot friend likes Ocean which is nothing more than a saline mist. It moistens the sinus and sometimes the ears open up with that. It’s only a few bucks for three bottles at Costco. Also Afrin (@ Costco Kirkland nasal spray) will provide a lot of relief but should only be used on occasion. Another technique is the netipot. This is a simple process of flushing your nostrils with saline water. It helps flush out allergens and relaxes the sinus. It only takes a few seconds and feels like swimming. Speaking of which, swimming in a pool might help too.
(edit)*To be clear, my pilot friend doesn’t take prescription drugs while flying as pilot. Only after landing. Also, prescription drugs like Nasonex have to be prescribed by a Doctor. I would never suggest exchanging a free skydiving trip for a case of samples with the local Schering-Plough rep.
Wish i could go see a Doctor, Its not that simple. First I dont have the best insurance, Sign of the times. Second Allergy’s if it is that is not a one stop treatment, If i could go into the Doc and he said take this bye that would be great, But im sure there would be many follow ups. For now I am going to have to try over the counter. I Might try some of Wazzu’s recomendation’s.
