I have the Flight Aware ProStick Plus setup and connected with PiAware. Everything is working correctly and I can see that the device is picking up local aircraft, however it is not picking up my SkyEcho 2 device when it is turned on and transmitting on 1090. (I am in Australia so allowed)
The SkyEcho is configured to broadcast 1090 but when switched on it is not showing up. Looking at output from dump1090 it is only showing all other aircraft in the area, but not my device.
Can anyone provide some advice or clues as to how I can get my SkyEcho 2 device to be detected? I need this to work for a project I am working on.
Are you using one of these apps? Maybe the data stream from that device need to be decoded in a way Skyaware/dump1090 does unterstand. There are other applications listed, but not Piaware. I assume because the main purpose of that device is using it in an aircraft.
We don’t have those devices here in the USA, but I’m familiar with them from when they first showed up on another network a few years ago. Most versions of dump1090 will decode them just fine and display them without any need for any extra switches or options. They might or might not actually get uploaded to the FA network. Some other networks filter them out.
If you are viewing through something like Virtual Radar Server (VRS), make sure that you haven’t filtered type DF18 out. That will hide them. IF using the local dump1090 web view, just make sure that all the options at the bottom are checked and enabled . From other posts, FA staff has confirmed that the SkyEcho devices using DF18 should show as type ads-b, just like normal ads-b. To be safe, I would have all types enabled.
One thought. As long as your SkyEcho device is on with a good GPS lock, it should be transmitting. Possibly you just have the portable device so close to your receiving antenna that it is completely overloading the receiver. Possibly take the SkyEcho for a short walk a distance away and then check when you come back for reception.
Those SkyEcho devices are definitely interesting. We have one user in Europe that uses one on hot air balloons.

Thanks for your response. I managed to be able to do some other testing today where I took the device a reasonable distance from the receiver. After doing that the device appeared on screen
I’m not sure why yours is not picking it up, when I set my skyecho up for my flying it picked it up no problem, and tracked my aircraft easily! I am in the UK so maybe your setup is not the same! check with your supplier if the settings are correct for your area and you have put in all the correct aircraft details and codes
