SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The FAA is still investigating a weekend plane crash. It happened in the marsh between Wassaw Island and Skidaway Island.

Fourteen-year pilot Eugenia Singer was close to getting seriously hurt Saturday afternoon.

“I flew the airplane and did the best I could and it all worked out. A little luck and probably a little help from upstairs,” said Singer.

Singer was flying from New Jersey to St. Simons Island. When she got past Charleston, the engine started giving her problems. That’s when she called air traffic control.

“The engine surged and the next thing I knew I was losing power,” said Singer.

Once she managed to safely land the plane near Skidaway Island, she and her dog waded out into the marsh.

Both Singer and her dog waited for help close to the nose of her single-engine Cessna plane, which was partially under water.

“It was a pretty uneventful landing other than all the water around me,” said Singer.

Soon after, the Coast Guard came to her rescue.

“We went expecting the worse,” said Coastal Air Station Savannah Lt. junior grade Ron Green, who was flying the rescue chopper that went to help out Singer.

"We were able to put both the pilot and her dog in the rescue basket and hoist them up into the aircraft. “The fact that she was able to walk away from a pretty bad situation is good stuff,” said Lt JG Green.

And Singer was more than grateful.

“Very because I was getting cold,” said Singer.

Singer says she’s going back to the plane to see if it’s salvageable and if she can find any of her belongings. Afterwards, she still plans to head over to St Simons Island.

Ok…am I missing something or is this a 14 year old girl (illegally) flying a 210? The age sounds a bit fishy, considering the fact that it’s not spoken about. Possible typo?

Fourteen Year Pilot, not 14 year old pilot!! On the news link above is the pilots photo.

Another Rescue video a light aircraft out of Santa Monica hit the water in front of the Malibu Pier, KTLA video, . . . FAA Registry.

It does say fourteen-year pilot, but I misread it the first time as well.
