I also transmit via bluetooth audio to announce passing flights on a speaker.

Your are showing flight info on the little screen, right?
A bit small 
, is this just a proof of concept, meaning to show it is possible, or will you actually put it somewhere later on?
How do you choose which aircraft is shown?

Yes, a bit too small, but more a proof of concept. I plan to 3dprint a tiny box and run it from a power bank to keep it around my home, for example when we have lunch in the garden with planes passing above.
Regarding the shown flights, there’s a program on the Piaware minitoring all messages, if a flight enters a 2nm radius from my home, it diplays it and continuous monitoring it until it leaves the 2nm ring.
Fortunately all planes arriving into MEX from the west pass over my house (around 1km above ground) so they all are detected, seen and sound is not that disturbing.
It really just takes a few bucks to make it (apart from the piaware setup) and the programming time) the display is around $1 and the microprocessor (ESP32) $3.
