MLAT on PI?

Welcome to the MLAT club. I noticed the extra coverage this morning. Great

Indeed Paul its nice to see the f16’s
And respect for Obj :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Edwin

Okay, I will wait for an answer for a test.

Meanwhile I build my own antenna and replaced that Sky Scan Mag 1300.

This is my new one: https://www.dropbox.com/s/gycvvqkhjdoof5o/IMAG0572.jpg?dl=0 :unamused:

And this is my recevier range after one hour: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0d0kqv8km807oov/Screenshot_2015-04-02-21-42-15_1.jpg?dl=0

Before my reported positions was around 2500 in one hour during flight time. Now I already had 7500 reported positions in 45 minutes

Impressive, and still inside! If you can manage to get it outside you’ll see the numbers doubled again (if the fun is not spoiled by nearby cell tower interference).

@LudgerBoergerding Wow, thats some nice range results. Cant wait to see how coverage of MLAT would change when you’re on the mlat boat.

@Paulmerkx Yeah cell towers can mess up things good. i have a tower visible here from all my antennas at about 200meters with basically every provider being on it. Its messing up my signal horribly.
I havent seen the F16’s yet. I should check more often :stuck_out_tongue:

@obj Let me know what is needed to offload processing data. I have bandwith available and i can probably work out some processing power too

Okay I am online now with mlat… Thanks for being a tester.

I can only agree to the statements above. Great work done by obj! My MLAT range:https://www.dropbox.com/s/81raspieptullfq/range.JPG?dl=0

And it is nice to see the F16 and RCH flights coming in
Happy my antenna survived the strong winds here the last days.

Hi,

Trying to join the MLat club, have the client running, but I am pretty much alone in my zone at the moment. Anyone willing to join in the LYON / GENEVA area would be more than welcomed.

Send an email to obj to get a link to the download package. It’s all very easy, I got mine installed in a matter of minutes.

Mine didn’t!

Luckily it was just that my not-very-secured mast standing on my balcony had blown over and the antenna was fine… I was away from home so couldn’t put it back up until I got back.

On the mlat front - I have been short on time to do much with this recently, but good to hear that it’s mostly working for everyone so far!
The server is getting a bit busy but I’m trying a couple of simple things to help with that until I can spend more time on it.

I was away too… First thing every morning was checking the stats to see if the mast/antenna survived.

Did an install of your latest mlat client version. Running smooth, like the additional stats in the log.

Maybe I am missing something. Being on the wrong continent to participate in testing, I can’t play anyway. Does MLAT in this instance require port forwarding as it does with planeplotter? An issue I have with travelling is a lack of control of the router in a local wifi hotspot such that PP doesn’t know where to send the port.

If port forwarding is not an issue, I’d be interested when you get to California.

It’s pure client-server: the client connects to a wellknown server address and sends data, the server gathers messages from many clients, does the multilateration computations, and returns results back to the clients over the same connection they provided the data on originally.

So no port forwarding needed.

What settings do you use in VRS to produce the comparison

What settings do you use in VRS to produce the comparison

I just tried by myself and it worked. I found it here: forum.virtualradarserver.co.uk/v … =365#p1859

It seems to work good with mlat. Today I heard some Eurofighter crusing around, looked at my VRS and saw them

/Ludger

This thread shows screenshots and gives all the info needed…
In VRS two receivers are configured: one for the Main output (Basestation on port 30003) and one for the MLAT output (Basestation on port 31003). By enabling the receiver range of both (all altitudes) the range patterns show up together.

Thanks to Ludger the north-east is now covered well. Currently viewing 200 aircraft with positions plus 25 MLAT’s

Thanks Paul

Things you can see with MLAT:
A Dutch F16 enjoying the nice weather and a US C17A passing overhead (actually saw its contrails)…

/paul

I changed my antenna on saturday and put an inline amplifier into the configuration. The results can be seen on my stats page.
The antenna is a 8 element coco, built with some older sat cable. It is still under the roof. I think that is enough for first time.

/ludger

Putting it above the roof will usually make a bigger difference (even with a simpler antenna + amplifier)

Has a test network been setup in the Chicago area? I would be interested if available.
