Max 978MHz UAT Reception Distance 159.7nm!

+1 agree, with the 1090 & 978 spiders I’ve built, the spider legs for both are the same. It’s the whip length that is critical and needs to be different (978 whip is longer) for best reception.

Just picked up a Perimeter Airlines jet leaving YWG heading SE. See graph:

Here’s the SkyView 978 image:

He was up around 30,000ft so range similar to 1090ADSB.

I bought an analyzer  - surprisingly I appear to have got it right the first time. Not getting a ton of traffic but pretty happy with my results (it’s also currently indoors by a window, so 15-20 planes a day)

Which analyzer? Been thinking of getting my own but they are very expensive once over 500MHz. I use a couple of AEA units for lower bands, one does HF/VHF, the other UHF up to 512 MHz. Was looking at one used that would do UHF 600MHz up to 2.5GHz but lots of $$ for the amount I would use it.
I do have a buddy that has a TDR I borrow once in a while that also covers VHF up to 3GHz, even has a paper roll printer that shows impedence along the feedline to the and antenna, a superb diagnostic tool, but several $k.
Built a 978 8 element coaxial colinear which is working very well. haven’t had a chance to test for impedence/SWR yet, have to borrow that TDR again!

I went with the one I’ve seen most on here - the AAI N1201SA. Right out of the box it was pretty easy to use and was about 150.00 US on Amazon. So far so good

That’s cheap for such a device, will have to look into that for sure. Shows $270 Cdn on the amazon.ca site much cheaper at the .com site. They must use a creative exchange rate. US post office is 20min away here so…
Would replace all af my current analyzers except the HF one.
Good info Thanx!

Yesterday I changed from green radarbox receiver to silver
rtl-sdr receiver , you can see the range result

That’s not surprising as the green radarbox Flightstick is equipped with a filter that passes only 1090 MHz.
(input → SAW filter → LNA → normal rtl-sdr signal chain)

You can easily change range rings from the PiAware Skyaware Map upper right corner find the settings ring. Next pop-up lower left Range Ring Settings.
