Where does it come from that the barometric altitude is way off reality?
Is this part of the ADS-B signal coming from the aircraft?
Bad transponder. Happens.

The old tape over the static port (for aircraft washing) trick, maybe?
Saw this re-enacted in a play, Charlie Victor Romeo(CVR) about 15 years ago (in NYC).
One of many that I had already read about or seen on TV.
