Dear FlightAware team,
I have been running a FlightFeeder (orange box) since a few years now, but I do not remember receiving (and have not found in my email box) the “small print” on the property situation of the FlightFeeder and its data.
Does the FlightFeeder hardware remains property of FlightAware or do I own it?
If I should decide to stop flight tracking, do I need to send it back to FlightAware?
Same type of questions regarding the collected data:
3. FlightAware approves (and encourages?) the feeding of the data to other sites (except triangulation data). So FlighAware does not have the exclusive ownership of the collected data, is this right?
4. If point 3 is correct, then I could store the data of my FlightFeeder in my own database for non-commercial use? E.g. custom statistics on the flight movements, landings/takeoffs at the local airport, statistics on local airlines, …
We don’t limit what you do with locally collected data (excluding the multilateration results that we return). These raw messages are essentially a direct transcription of what the aircraft is transmitting, so it’d be hard for anyone to claim ownership of that raw data. Note that you’ll need a separate device to process the data locally if you want to collect custom stats or feed other sites, you can’t run this directly on the FlightFeeder itself.
